Summer History Programs Continue at Cragfont and Mansker’s Station

Living history and behind-the-scenes tours connect visitors with early Sumner County stories

Two ongoing programs, Hidden History at Cragfont and Demonstration Days at Mansker’s Station, are giving visitors hands-on ways to experience Sumner County history this summer.

Story

Sumner County’s America 250 season includes more than single-day celebrations. Across the county, historic sites are offering programs that help visitors step more deeply into the people, places, and daily life of early Tennessee.

At Cragfont State Historic Site in Castalian Springs, the Hidden History behind-the-scenes tour invites visitors into rarely seen spaces, including the cellar, attic, and closets. The tour uses architectural details and historic clues to explore life at Cragfont in the early 19th century and the changes the house has experienced over time.

In Goodlettsville, Demonstration Days at Mansker’s Station bring the 18th-century frontier to life through hands-on activities and historical demonstrations. Guests can explore trades, daily life, and early Middle Tennessee history while visiting the station and the Bowen Plantation House setting.

Together, these programs show why Sumner County’s 250th commemoration is not only about national milestones, but also about the local places where history can still be seen, studied, and experienced.
